  • What is a Sound Bath (and why is it called a “bath”)?
A sound bath is a guided relaxation using live instruments — gongs, crystal bowls, chimes, and more — to bring you into a deeply restorative state called homeostasis (your body’s natural balance point). It’s called a “bath” because you’re not just hearing sound — you’re immersed in it: You usually lie down on a mat or mattress The sound waves wash over and around you Your whole body becomes part of the listening experience
  • How do you listen in a Sound Bath?
Lie down, close your eyes, and let your body be comfortable Allow the sounds to come and go, without trying to “hold onto” them Don’t replay your to-do list — let thoughts drift past like clouds Your only job is to receive
  • What does a Sound Bath do for you?
Tom’s Sound Baths are designed to bring you into the hypnagogic state — the magical “half-awake, half-asleep” space you pass through when falling asleep and waking up. In this state: Your mind quietens Your body begins its own repair process The sound “finds” where you most need support — physical, emotional, or spiritual You feel more balanced, centred, and at ease
  • What are the benefits of Sound Baths?
Common benefits people report include: Calming the nervous system Better sleep and deeper rest Reduced anxiety and stress Increased focus and mental clarity Enhanced creativity Boosted mood and emotional resilience A greater sense of connection to self and surroundings
  • What happens to your body after a Sound Bath?
Afterwards, people often notice: A feeling of lightness or “floating” Deeper breathing and slower heart rate Muscles released and loosened A grounded sense of stability Sometimes old emotions gently surfacing for release A subtle inner “hum” that can last for hours or days
  • Do Sound Baths release trauma?
The vibrations can bypass mental defences and reach deeper layers of the nervous system This can “soften the ego” — the part of us that holds onto old patterns for safety Stored emotions and body memories may gently rise and release It’s never forced — it happens when the body feels safe enough to let go
  • Can sounds actually heal you?
It depends on how you define “heal”: Physically: vibrations can help reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing responses Mentally: shifts brainwaves, calms the nervous system, and reduces stress Emotionally & Spiritually: fosters connection, releases old emotions, and renews a sense of wholeness Both science and lived experience agree — sound can change how you feel, think, and even how your body functions.
  • What happens to the brain during a Sound Bath?
Brainwaves slow from active beta into alpha and theta states (linked with deep meditation, creativity, and the hypnagogic state) The brain begins releasing melatonin, which helps regulate sleep and promotes relaxation The parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest mode) activates, allowing the body to repair Stress hormones like cortisol may decrease New neural pathways can form, supporting shifts in mood and thought patterns
  • Is a Sound Bath scientifically proven?
Research shows: Sound-based practices can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve sleep, and ease anxiety Brain imaging shows sound can change neural activity and promote relaxation While more studies are still needed, existing evidence supports what participants have known for centuries — sound changes us
  • Do you need to know about chakras to do a Sound Bath?
No — you don’t need any prior knowledge. Sound works on a cellular and neurological level whether you believe in chakras or not Some traditions use chakras as a framework, but the effects happen regardless of your spiritual background
  • What is the use of intentions during a Sound Bath?
Setting an intention can focus your awareness and energy during the session It’s like giving your mind and body a direction to follow Intentions can be as simple as “I want to relax” or “I welcome clarity” Even without a clear intention, the sound will still support you
  • How often should you do a Sound Bath?
Weekly: for ongoing stress relief and emotional balance Fortnightly or monthly: for regular “tune-ups” Whenever life feels heavy or you feel out of alignment Even a single session can be deeply restorative, but like any self-care, regularity builds deeper results.
  • What are you supposed to do during a Sound Bath?
Make yourself comfortable (lying down or sitting) Close your eyes, breathe, and let the sounds carry you No special breathing techniques or meditations required Just allow yourself to receive
  • What to wear during a Sound Bath?
Loose, comfortable clothing Layers — your body temperature may drop during deep relaxation Optional extras: socks, a light blanket, or a small pillow
